who s the boss?

I had four chickens for five months and decided to get a cockerel. The dominant female is now chasing and pecking him and he does not even try to fight back he just runs and tries to hde behind the others.Sometimes he gets attacked by two at the same time. What can I do to help him become the boss and rule the roost.
